Sighthill Community Space
Wheatley Group / Glasgow City Council / Scottish Government
December 2015 – January 2017
Sighthill, North Glasgow, is currently undergoing the most extensive programme of regeneration work in Scotland and, as the development has unfolded, the existing community have been left with minimal access to public green space.
Pidgin Perfect was commissioned to work with the residents of Sighthill to understand and build capacity for the delivery of an outdoor Community Space. Developing a consultation process designed to create accessible opportunities for the residents of Sighthill to contribute to the creation of the brief for the Community Space and enabling them to engage and learn from the project at any stage. Using a number of different workshop formats across the course of the project; including go-sees, visioning activities, live building, gardening and craft classes and community suppers, engaged a diverse group of participants, aged six to sixty.
In this project, through making and doing, the community were supported to develop ideas and eventually manage their own large scale prototype to demonstrate what the Community Space should provide. It was concluded that the outdoor Community Space would need to be flexible and host events as well as providing a space for the community to plant, grow, play and gather.
