Action Barras Calton / Glasgow City Council / Scottish Government
April 2013 – April 2016
Between 2013 – 2016, Pidgin Perfect worked with Many Studios and Glasgow City Council to redevelop a property in the East End of Glasgow with capital development funding provided by The Scottish Government; refurbishing the abandoned ‘Charlie’s Market’ building in the Barras Market into 40 artist studios, 2 public galleries, event and artist residency facilities and two commercial shop units.
Pidgin Perfect worked closely with Many Studios across the project to ensure the refurbishment would not only provide a purpose built high-quality space but importantly that the design would allow the organisation to grow expeditiously, and develop new avenues for income generation and creative development.
Since the building opened in April 2016, our team has continued to support Many Studios and in the short time that the organisation has existed from the location it has demonstrated the positive impact that an active creative destination can have on a wider local area. Together, Pidgin Perfect and Many Studios have continued to nurture a creative community in the Barras Market through the production of free illustrated visitor guides and launching a street food and craft market alongside the delivery of high quality gallery content and engagement activities; all contributing to the creative transformation of the East End of Glasgow.
