Kinning Park Complex
Kinning Park Complex & BIG Lottery
September 2017 – August 2018
KPC is an independent multi-use community centre located within a red sandstone Victoria school building in the South West of Glasgow. The building has been run and managed by the community since 1996 – after local campaigners occupied the building for fifty-five days and nights to ensure the building remained open against a backdrop of cuts and closures. Since then the building has provided rent out halls, meeting rooms and studio spaces at affordable prices for people and groups to put their ideas into action as well as hosting community development projects for the local area.
The 107 year old building has increasingly succumb to disrepair and dilapidation and although the building remains safe, KPC have worked extensively with local people to plan a future for the building and its role within the community.
Kinning Park Complex (KPC) commissioned a team led by Pidgin Perfect to undertake the Architectural Design Study for the Redevelopment of KPC in September 2017. The Design Study explored and produced an options appraisal with input from an experienced consultant team to form a key part of the Stage 1 BIG Lottery process for KPC.
Pidgin Perfect undertook a number of consultation events at Kinning Park Complex in the development of the Design Study. Each consultation event allowed building users to comment on the brief, aims and objectives of the renovation, and these conversations allowed our team to interrogate the brief, and place our concept designs in a wider context of the building user’s wants and needs, now and in the future.
Work completed with David Narro Associates, Max Fordham LLP and Armour Construction & Cost Consultants.
