Artworks for Libraries
Scottish Book Trust
Book Week Scotland 2013 & 2014
‘Artworks for Libraries’ was a project commissioned by Scottish Book Trust to celebrate Book Week Scotland 2013 and 2014. For each year, Pidgin Perfect were commissioned to curate, manage and support five Scottish artists to create bespoke permanent artworks for five public libraries across Scotland; from Castlemilk to Lerwick.
The purpose of each permanent artwork was to raise the awareness of libraries as important assets for local communities to enjoy whilst illustrating and promoting the themes and values of Book Week Scotland – to inspire people to begin or continue their reading journey, and access reading’s unique capacity for empowerment, enrichment, education, solace, pleasure and growth – to a diverse national audience.
The ten permanent artworks have improved the visibility of each library within their community and contributed to increased audience engagement with the library services, providing a physical legacy for Book Week Scotland and demonstrating an example of how creative partnerships and collaborative working can create inspiring places through alternative methods of art making in the built environment.
